Don’t miss Shikha Rani at Special Olympics World Winter Games

Shikha Rani - Special Olympics Bharat

Shikha Rani from Una,Himachal Pradesh went to Austria 2017. When Shikha was born with multiple physical and intellectual disabilities, the stigma and prospect of her care proved too much for her family.

She was sent to a residential care facility for 15 years, but she had always hoped to see her parents again. Shikha was born without fingers and toes, along with facial distortions and spent her time keeping away from people and hiding her face. After she began training with Special Olympics, she gained confidence and learned new skills -- and also enjoyed applause and public approval for the first time.

Gradually, her abilities improved -- balance on her legs was difficult; but she persevered. Holding a bocce ball without fingers was also difficult, but she has mastered the art. Now she is ready for her first World Games! Her family has started to accept her and welcomed her back into their home.
